This show was bound to have troubles, from the start. It’s a city that received 11 days of rain in that one day, it’s cold, the roads are flooded, but the bands and fans work through it to be there, most of them, that is. Malevolence don’t play this show, flooding prevents them from being there on time. But as some famous bloke once said, the show must go on!
Memories open this, some technical difficulties mean a few awkward silences are distributed throughout the set, but all together they are sound. They are in time, they’re heavy and they’re energetic. Their time is yet to come and they don’t really get the crowd going, but the openers rarely do.
This is Forever Grace’s last hometown show in a while, and as seen before, they like to go out on a bang. They tear it up, there’s energy, violence, movement, crowd participation (everyone’s seen this set so many times before, it seems that everyone knows the vocal parts). This is a band whose music really comes to life in a live atmosphere, and they milk that fact tonight.
Up next is The Departed. Rumours say that they almost couldn’t make it tonight. Alas, they’re on stage and thundering their way through their set. All set times gone out the window, they’re there having fun, and they’re tearing it up. The crowd, once again, are going mental. It’s good fun, and it’s at this point that the hair comes out and is flying in all directions. They’re a great way to sub a headline slot, despite the fact that the bass cut out more times than I can count.
With Malevolence not here, the headliners Demoraliser go on stage. It seems all bands wanted to put on a crackin’ show to make up for the complications. They do just that. They can’t help the fact that the bass cuts out all the time, once again, but they try. They’re heavy and tight, musically they provide a good show. They aren’t the highlight of the night but they top it off nicely. This show doesn’t hold a candle to the Heart in Hand show, but it’s a decent night out for everyone.
