What do you get when you cross three young lads from Evesham, The Vaccines, and all the real punk that you can get your hands on? Sound like the start to some inside joke? Well Dirt Tongues can show you just how it ends.

Anything can pass for punk these days, anyone can have a slightly controversial political view alongside a heartbreak and they're the next best thing. Opener Denim Jackets bring back everything good about punk. It's simplicity shows that they haven't tried too hard and that in this case, less is more. Yes, the recording is shoddy but the raw feel to it is definitely something to applaud.

But nothing could prepare for the gem of Rare Breed which takes on a much slower, smoother, sophisticated style. The vocals on this track are simply sublime, and seem to take influence from the likes of Jonny Cash and Justin Young. The band really have something to be proud of here.

Idiot itself is seemingly the tightest song of the bunch, but is neither here nor there and stands somewhere in between the first two tracks. The punk definitely shines through when drummer Roland Hall-Roberts' vocals arrive and provides a steady balance. A decent track that stands in the shadow of Rare Breed.

I am not really qualified to have a huge say on fourth and final track, a cover of Lou Reed's perfect day. I can't say I'm a fan of Lou Reed and I don't particularly know his music too well, so my slightly cynical stand maybe a little over-exaggerated. But the choice of song fits them superbly.

This EP is definitely a breath of fresh air, and one I am very glad to say was my first review. The only real downside was in recording and production. Next time, eh?
